MERIDIAN COLLEGE PRETORIA

WOW SUPERB!!!!! 2010 GR 12 PASS RATE - 86% ------ CONGRATULATIONS!

HISTORY

IMAGE

The College in Pretoria started on 2 April 1991. During 1993 the College expanded tremendously.

The pass rate for the College for Grade 12 steadily improves every year. At the end of 1996 we had the highest pass rate for the inner city private schools. The pass rate for Grade 1 to Grade 11 is more than 95%.

This is achieved by a high academic standard and good discipline.

We do not only concentrate on the academic side. Every year we have several sport events.

We initiate Olympiads in different subjects, among the Meridian Colleges and other private schools. The number of students participating grows from year to year.

EVENTS

Fête

In May Meridian Pretoria has their annual Fête, which is always a great success. The event is attended by teachers, students and parents. There are a variety of stalls, games and eats and everyone has a great time. The money is ploughed back into the school through new sports equipment, teaching aids, club requisites and for the Matric Farewell and sponsoring of excursions.

Matric Farewell

imageOur annual Matric Farewell is an unforgettable event, although it is always sad to say goodbye.

Cultural Events

We offer a selection of clubs in both the Primary and Secondary school. Every term, the students choose from the group of clubs so that they cover a selection throughout the year. These club periods are non-academic periods in which the students can relax and do or learn something they are interested in. Clubs range from the choir to art, journalism and chess. We have drama groups who visits the school and, through plays, brings messages about drugs etc.

Extra Classes

Every year we offer extra classes in the afternoon to the Matric students especially, but also to the grade 11's. In these classes problem areas are explained and students can ask questions about aspects of the work they do not understand.

Extra classes are very important as this is where the teachers giive learners pointers and advice about the final examinations. Students definitely benefit from these classes.

Fun Events

All is not work. There is also time to play and have fun. Valentine's day is a ball, with roses, balloons and messages. We also have Spring Day celebrations. Socials are held where the learners can enjoy themselves in a safe environment and under the supervision of the teachers

Parents Day

Every term we have had a Parents' Day to give the parents the opportunity to visit the school and speak to the teachers to find out about their child's performance. On some parents' days we have exhibitions of our students' work and of the various clubs offered to the learners. Our high standard of education is portrayed in these exhibitions. We would like to see all the parents at these Parents' Days.

Excursions

Each term we have excursions for our learners. The Primary School visit the animal farm in Centurion, or go swimming or we arrange an educational trip. The High School students go on trips and this year attended the Imax theatre. For many this was a first. We also arrange camp trips for primary and high school learners.

Sport

Athletics

We joined the E-league in 2003 and left the interhigh competition with 12 records, the junior and senior Victrix Ludorum, the best middle distance athlete, the best short distance athlete, the best hurdler, as well as the percentage trophy.

Four of our athletes were in the District D4 USSASA team and 3 learners were in the Gauteng North Team representing Gauteng North at the SA Championships. We also participate in the CO-ED private school league where we finished 2nd every time.

Bowls

We have been taking part in the bowls since 2000 and this year we were one of the schools participating in the first ever Gauteng North schols bowl league.
